DG NEWSLETTER MARCH 2025
Dear Rotarians and Friends,
March is Rotary’s Water Sanitation and Hygiene Month
Access to clean water is basic human right, and yet, many are still deprived from this. 771million people still lack access to safe drinkable water, and over 1.7 billion people are living without basic sanitation worldwide. Everyday, more than 800 children under the age of five die from disease caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation and inadequate hygiene. These staggering figures calls for Rotarian’s action.
Sustainable Development Goal – 6
In 2015, the United Nations introduced their new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to end poverty and promote prosperity while protecting the environment and addressing climate change. Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 on water and sanitation encourages us to address universal access to drinking water and sanitation along with improved water management to protect ecosystems and build resiliency.

Rotary’s Work in Water Sanitation and Hygiene
Rotarians around the world have carried out projects on building wells, installing water filtration systems, improving school toilets for young children, etc. Rotarians integrate water, sanitation, and hygiene into education projects. Our work allows children to take those lessons home to their families, expanding our impact. When people have access to clean water and basic hygiene, not only can they live a healthier life, it would improve the quality of living in the long-run.

Actions taken by District 3450 clubs
Area 6 clubs would carry out project involving digging 50 meters underground to access clean water in northern Cambodia. A 4,000-litre water tank has been constructed to store this water, powered by a solar energy pump. This initiative will provide sustainable access to clean water for nearly 1,000 people in the community.

Rotary Club of Zuunmod, Rotary Club of Hong Kong Fairview and Rotary Club of Tokuo Higashi (D2580) completed a global grant project, involving renovating toilets in local primary schools.

Yours in Rotary,
