March marks Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Month, a core focus of Rotary International. In recognition of this, Rotary Clubs from Area 5 launched the “Magic of Water” project in the industrial areas of Dong Nai Province, Vietnam. This region faces significant challenges due to pollution from industrial activities and untreated water that compromise the fresh water supply for local communities.

Dong Nai is home to over 22,000 children across 922 schools, where access to sustainable clean water remains a critical yet overlooked issue. On March 14, 2025, the “Magic of Water” project came to life, with seven Rotary Clubs from Area 5 each donating a water purifier machine to three schools in the area. These purifiers now provide clean water at the press of a button to over 2,800 students and 105 teachers.

The participating clubs included:

  • Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island West
  • Rotary Club of City Northwest Hong Kong
  • Rotary Club of Mid-level
  • Rotary Club of The Peak
  • Rotary Club of Kowloon Centra
  • Rotary Club of Harmony & Prosperity Hong Kong
  • Rotary Club of Green Hong Kong

The initiative received widespread recognition from local authorities, including appreciation from the Education Department and Government Committee. The project was even featured on local TV media, further amplifying its impact.

In addition to addressing water and sanitation needs, the Rotary Club of Macau and Rotary Club of Peninsula contributed to the cause of basic education and literacy by donating a total of 480 books to school libraries of three visited schools at Dong Nai.

This impactful project was made possible with the invaluable support of Circle K Vietnam and the Hong Kong Business Association Vietnam. Such collaborations not only enhance our district’s international image but also foster new friendships and pave the way for potential global grant opportunities with our neighbours in Zone 10.
