This issue introduces the different types of funds, namely Annual Fund, Endowment Fund and Polio Fund and their respective ways of fundraising. An update will be given in the second section about projects under The Rotary Foundation Global Projects including Vocation Training Team, Rotary Scholarship & Peace Fellowship. The last section lists out the important dates Rotary Clubs should take note of.

Gifts to the Annual Fund helps Rotary and Rotaract clubs take action today to create positive change in communities close to home and around the world. Contributions help strengthening peace efforts, fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies and protecting the environment.

Annual Fund can be raised by donations made by individuals and couples.  The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name of US$1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.  Major Donor recognition acknowledges couples or individuals whose combined personal or cumulative giving has reached US$10,000.  Named after the sixth president of Rotary, the Arch Klumph Society recognizes The Rotary Foundation’s highest tier of donors, i.e. those who have contributed US$250,000 or above during their lifetime. If any queries regarding annual fund donation, you may contact Fund Raising SubComittee Chair PP Frank Chan at 852-91683878.

This serves as a reminder to those Rotary Clubs that have submitted their District Grant applications in this Rotary Year.  Please make sure that your Club has completed the donation and be an Every-Rotarian-Every Year club. You can donate the EREY under the Annual Fund category.

When club giving reaches US$100 per capita or more and all dues-paying members give US$25 in a year, the club will be recognised as an EREY Club.

If any queries regarding EREY, you may contact PP Cecilia Lee at 852-96428358.

Gifts to Rotary’s Endowment ensure that future Rotarians will have the resources they need to design and implement sustainable projects year after year.  This is made possible by preserving and investing initial contributions and spending only a portion of the earnings.

This strategy supports Rotary’s causes today while generating funds that will further the work of future Rotarians committed to Doing Good in the World.

You may choose to give to Endowment Fund any time or include a commitment to the Foundation in your Will or estate plan. If any queries regarding endowment fund, you may PP Kelvin Huang 852-63928050.

Donations to Polio Fund helps Rotary reach every child with the polio vaccine.  Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever.

Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it is crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free.  If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year.

Clubs can contribute by participating in the two fundraising walks on 20 October 2024 and 14 December 2024 in Macao and Hong Kong respectively. If any queries regarding End Polio fund donation, you may contact Fund Raising Sub Chair PP Frank Chan at 852-91683878.

Vocation Training Team (“VTT”) is a group of professionals who travel to another country to teach and learn from others within their field.  This year, Hong Kong medical practitioners will form a VTT giving training Mongolian medical doctors cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills and knowledge of heart diseases with the hope of saving lives.  VTT training will be carried out in this Rotary Year which will be expected to implement by early May 2025.

Sub-committee chair PP Thomas and Dr. Ivan Choi visited Mongolia in August for a VTT field visit at hospitals and clinics.

Mongolian Rotarians visited Hong Kong to discuss details of VTT project on 10 and 11 August 2024.

Rotary Scholarship (a Global Grant project) has been granted to Mr. Gary Chan (middle) who will be attending a one-year course in the United Kingdom studying refugee law.  PP Thomas (left) and PDG Wilson (right) met Gary before his departure to begin his studies.

In addition to VTT & Rotary Scholarship, The Rotary Foundation Programs team also handle Peace Fellowship cases. We look forward to seeing new peace related projects in the near future.
