District Membership Event – New Members Orientation on 5th October 2024

By PP Vivian Chan, Chair of New Members Orientation, District Membership Committee Rotary Club of HK Financial Centre

The New Members Orientation, organized by the District Membership Committee, was held on October 5, 2024 at Coast Seafood & Grill and was a great success!  The Orientation was the first of the Rotary Year and kicked off with several captivating sessions.

The first session, titled “Rotary Magic Journey,” was presented by PDG Eric Chak, Chair of the District Membership Committee. PDG Eric took the attendees on an enlightening journey through Rotary’s rich history and guiding principles, highlighting the organization’s unwavering commitment to service and fellowship. His presentation was both informative and inspiring, setting the tone for the rest of the evening.

Following PDG Eric’s session, PP Thomas Chan hosted the second part of the Rotary Magic Journey. This session delved deeper into the basics of Rotary, engaging attendees with interactive questions and discussions about Rotary’s core values, avenues of service, and historical milestones. PP Thomas’s dynamic approach and insightful questions helped new members gain a comprehensive understanding of what Rotary stands for and how they can contribute to its mission.

The second session featured a dynamic panel discussion moderated by the ever-engaging DDS Dennis Ho. The panel included a stellar lineup of distinguished and new Rotarians: PDG Eugene Fong, AG Henry Wong, PP Eric Yuon, Rtn. Karen Kwok, and Rtn. Wayne Lai. Each panelist shared their unique experiences and insights, providing new members with invaluable perspectives on what it means to be a part of Rotary, how they became a Rotarian and why they still decide to be part of this organization. The discussion was lively and interactive, with attendees eagerly participating and asking questions.

The third session was an exciting break-out activity led by the charismatic DS Colin Chau. In this session, attendees were invited to fill out a questionnaire regarding their Rotary journey, develop and share their own Rotary stories, fostering a deeper connection and understanding among participants. This interactive session was a highlight of the evening, as it allowed new members to reflect on their personal journeys and aspirations within Rotary.

Hosted by PE Basil Kwan as emcee, throughout the seminar, our goal was to equip attendees with a solid foundation of what it means to join Rotary and the responsibilities and opportunities that come with being a Rotarian. The sessions were designed to be both informative and engaging, ensuring that new members left with a clear understanding of Rotary’s values and mission.

The event was an overwhelming success, with an oversubscription of attendees, both new Rotarians and Rotarian mentors, and glowing feedback from participants. We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the District Membership Committee Organizing Committee members for their time and effort, all Committee members for their promotion, the presenters and moderators for their wisdom, the panel guests for their insightful contributions, and all attendees for their enthusiasm despite the hot weather on the evening. Your collective efforts made this orientation a truly special event for all.

Yours in Rotary,

Vivian Chan

On the evening of October 18, we had a wonderful experience at the Sake Night Rotary Fellowship gathering held by Rotary District 3450!

Guided by a professional sake sommelier, we tasted four unique sakes, each with its own story and flavor journey. This event was a fantastic opportunity for both sake beginners and enthusiasts. We learned about the intricate brewing process, the importance of rice polishing, and how different regions influence the taste of each sake.

Beyond the tastings, it was a great chance to connect with fellow Rotarians and strengthen our friendships. Whether discussing business, community service projects, or simply enjoying the moment, the evening reminded us of the power of friendship!
