DG NEWSLETTER JANUARY 2025<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dear Rotarians and Friends,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we stepped into the 7th<\/sup> Month of this Rotary year, I would like to remind Rotarians the importance of Vocational Service. While community service is the backbone of this renowned international service organisation, vocational service is what makes it unique from any other (service) organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like to share a quote of our founding father Paul Harris, \u201cEach Rotarian is a connecting link between the idealism of Rotary and their trade or profession\u201d<\/mark><\/strong>. This can be further explained in the second Object of Rotary, Rotarians are reminded of their mission to observe the Four Way Test and foster high ethical standards in their own business or profession. Each Rotarian should see their occupation as an opportunity to serve our society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1911, the then president of the Rotary Club of Minnesota, Ben Collins was sharing the principle that his club had adopted as the proper way to organise a Rotary club, \u201cService, Not Self\u201d.<\/mark><\/strong> Our Founder Paul Harris immediately asked Ben to address this at the second Rotary International Convention after hearing this. In the same Convention, Rotarian Arthur Frederick Sheldon made a speech, during which he said \u201c\u2026only the science of right conduct toward others pays. Business is the science of human services. He profits most who serves his fellows best\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the Rotary International Convention in Detroit (1950), \u201cService Above Self\u201d<\/mark><\/strong> and \u201cHe profits most who serves best\u201d<\/mark><\/strong> were formally approved as official mottoes of Rotary. In the Council on Legislation (1989), \u201cService Above Self\u201d <\/mark><\/strong>was established as the principal Rotary motto while \u201cHe profits most who serves best\u201d <\/mark><\/strong>or \u201cOne profits most who serves best\u201d<\/mark><\/strong> (2010 version) had been adopted as Rotary\u2019s secondary motto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our principal motto inspires Rotary clubs to carry out unselfish volunteer service to build our communities. While the secondary motto reminds us as Rotarians, it is our mission to
enhance ethical standards in our trade or profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The District Vocational Service Committee has put together a Forum on 18 January featuring Past President Tim Lui (the Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East), who is the former chairman of the Security and Future Commission as our keynote speaker. I would like to invite all of you to join this Forum to learn more about our mission as Rotarians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u8e0f\u5165\u9019\u500b\u6276\u8f2a\u5e74\u5ea6\u7b2c7\u500b\u6708\uff0c\u6211\u5e0c\u671b\u63d0\u9192\u5404\u4f4d\u793e\u53cb\u8077\u696d\u670d\u52d9\u7684\u91cd\u8981\u6027\u3002\u793e\u5340\u670d\u52d9\u662f\u6211\u5011\u9019\u500b\u8457\u540d\u7684\u570b\u969b\u670d\u52d9\u6a5f\u69cb\u7684\u9aa8\u5e79\uff0c\u800c\u8077\u696d\u670d\u52d9\u5247\u4ee4\u6211\u5011\u6709\u5225\u65bc\u4efb\u4f55\u5176\u4ed6\uff08\u670d\u52d9\uff09\u6a5f\u69cb\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u8b93\u6211\u5728\u6b64\u5f15\u7528\u570b\u969b\u6276\u8f2a\u4e4b\u7236Paul Harris\u7684\u540d\u8a00\uff1a\u300cEach Rotarian is a connecting link between the idealism of Rotary and their trade or profession<\/mark><\/strong><\/mark><\/strong>\u300d\u9019\u53ef\u4ee5\u5728\u7b2c\u4e8c\u9805\u6276\u8f2a\u5b97\u65e8\u4e2d\u9032\u4e00\u6b65\u89e3\u91cb\uff0c\u6276\u8f2a\u793e\u54e1\u90fd\u5fc5\u9808\u5949\u884c\u56db\u5927\u8003\u9a57\uff0c\u4e26\u5728\u4ed6\u5011\u5404\u81ea\u7684\u4e8b\u696d\u6216\u5c08\u696d\u4e2d\u63d0\u9ad8\u9053\u5fb7\u6a19\u6e96\u3002\u6bcf\u500b\u6276\u8f2a\u4eba\u90fd\u61c9\u8996\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u8077\u696d\u70ba\u670d\u52d9\u793e\u6703\u7684\u5951\u6a5f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1911\u5e74\uff0c\u660e\u5c3c\u8607\u9054\u6276\u8f2a\u793e\u7576\u6642\u7684\u793e\u9577Ben Collins\u5206\u4eab\u4ed6\u7684\u793e\u5728\u7d44\u7e54\u6276\u8f2a\u793e\u65b9\u9762\u7684\u539f\u5247\uff0c\u5373\u300cService, Not Self<\/mark><\/strong>\u300d<\/mark><\/strong>\u3002\u6211\u5011\u7684\u5275\u8fa6\u4ebaPaul Harris\u807d\u5230\u5f8c\u96a8\u5373\u9080\u8acb\u4ed6\u5728\u7b2c\u4e8c\u5c4a\u570b\u969b\u6276\u8f2a\u5e74\u6703\u4e2d\u8b1b\u89e3\u9019\u500b\u539f\u5247\u3002\u5728\u540c\u4e00\u5c4a\u5e74\u6703\u4e2d\uff0c\u793e\u54e1Arthur Frederick Sheldon\u5728\u4ed6\u7684\u6f14\u8b1b\u4e2d\u63d0\u5230\uff1a\u300c\u2026\u53ea\u6709\u6b63\u7576\u5c0d\u5f85\u4ed6\u4eba\u7684\u79d1\u5b78\u624d\u53ef\u5e36\u4f86\u597d\u8655\u3002\u5546\u696d\u662f\u4e00\u9580\u4eba\u985e\u670d\u52d9\u7684\u79d1\u5b78\u3002\u70ba\u4eba\u670d\u52d9\u6700\u591a\u7684\u4eba\u6536\u7a6b\u6700\u5927\u3002\u300d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u57281950\u5e74\u5e95\u7279\u5f8b\u8209\u884c\u7684\u570b\u969b\u6276\u8f2a\u5e74\u6703\u4e2d\uff0c\u300cService Above Self<\/mark><\/strong>\u300d<\/mark><\/strong>\u548c\u300cHe profits most who serves best<\/mark><\/strong>\u300d<\/strong><\/mark>\u7372\u6b63\u5f0f\u6279\u51c6\u6210\u7232\u6276\u8f2a\u7684\u683c\u8a00\u3002\u57281989\u5e74\u7684\u7acb\u6cd5\u6703\u8b70\u4e2d\uff0c\u300cService Above Self<\/mark><\/strong>\u300d<\/mark><\/strong>\u88ab\u78ba\u7acb\u70ba\u6276\u8f2a\u7684\u4e3b\u683c\u8a00\uff0c\u800c\u300cHe profits most who serves best<\/mark><\/strong>\u300d<\/mark><\/strong>\u6216\u300cOne profits most who serves best<\/mark><\/strong>\u300d<\/mark><\/strong>\uff082010\u7248\uff09\u5247\u88ab\u78ba\u7acb\u70ba\u6276\u8f2a\u7684\u526f\u683c\u8a00\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u6211\u5011\u7684\u4e3b\u683c\u8a00\u8b93\u5404\u6276\u8f2a\u793e\u4ee5\u7121\u79c1\u7684\u5fd7\u9858\u670d\u52d9\u53bb\u5efa\u8a2d\u6211\u5011\u7684\u793e\u5340\uff1b\u800c\u526f\u683c\u8a00\u5247\u63d0\u9192\u8eab\u7232\u6276\u8f2a\u4eba\u7684\u6211\u5011\uff0c\u5728\u6211\u5011\u7684\u4e8b\u696d\u6216\u5c08\u696d\u4e2d\u63d0\u5347\u9053\u5fb7\u6a19\u6e96\u662f\u6211\u5011\u7684\u4f7f\u547d\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5730\u5340\u8077\u696d\u670d\u52d9\u59d4\u54e1\u6703\u5c07\u65bc1\u670818\u65e5\u8209\u8fa6\u8b1b\u5ea7\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u6709\u5e78\u9080\u8acb\u5230\u9999\u6e2f\u6771\u5340\u6276\u8f2a\u793e\u524d\u793e\u9577\u517c\u8b49\u76e3\u6703\u524d\u4e3b\u5e2d\u96f7\u6dfb\u826f\u5148\u751f\u64d4\u4efb\u4e3b\u8b1b\u5609\u8cd3\u3002\u6211\u8aa0\u9080\u5404\u4f4d\u53c3\u52a0\u9019\u500b\u8b1b\u5ea7\uff0c\u9032\u4e00\u6b65\u4e86\u89e3\u6211\u5011\u8eab\u7232\u6276\u8f2a\u4eba\u7684\u4f7f\u547d\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n
