How about thinking wider and bolder to add DEI elements to our service projects so that we can live a DEI way of life as people of action? Examples include &#8211; Supporting differently-abled groups such as the \u201cTrue Colours Symphony\u201d to help differently-abled musicians to showcase their diverse talents; bringing the visually impaired to the cinema to \u201cwatch\u201d movies through audio description to offer them opportunities to integrate into the society just as any other persons. A Rotary Club even crossed the ocean to help and support underprivileged women in the Philippines to do manicure, thereby empowering the ladies with more confidence in their daily lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 37%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can also consider seeking support from the Rotary Foundation for our service projects to build a more equitable and inclusive society. Globally, an estimated 736 million women \u2014 almost one in three \u2014 have been subjected to physical and\/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This scourge has intensified in different settings, including the workplace and online spaces, and has been exacerbated by post-pandemic effects, conflicts, and climate change.<\/p>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1574\" height=\"1576\" src=\"https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/05.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-863 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/05.png 1574w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/05-1198x1200.png 1198w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/05-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/05-768x769.png 768w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/05-1534x1536.png 1534w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1574px) 100vw, 1574px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The solution lies in robust responses, including investment in prevention. However, alarmingly, data on how much nations are committing to counteract violence against women and girls remains glaringly sparse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While gender-based violence can happen to anyone, anywhere, some women and girls are particularly vulnerable &#8211; for instance, young girls and older women, women who identify as lesbian, bisexual, transgender or intersex, migrants and refugees, indigenous women and ethnic minorities, or women and girls living with HIV and disabilities, and those living through humanitarian crises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center coblocks-animate\" style=\"grid-template-columns:26% auto\" data-coblocks-animation=\"fadeIn\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1322\" src=\"https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/06-2000x1322.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-864 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/06-2000x1322.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/06-1200x793.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/06-768x508.jpg 768w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/06-1536x1015.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/dg-newsletter2425.rid3450.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/06-2048x1354.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Violence against women continues to be an obstacle to achieving equality, development, peace as well as to the fulfillment of women and girls\u2019 human rights. All in all, the promise of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/sdgs\">Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>&nbsp;(SDGs) &#8211; to leave no one behind &#8211; cannot be fulfilled without putting an end to violence against women and girls.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-vivid-purple-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-44f5a713e683bdc9daf92447e2179d99\"><strong>Elimination of Violence Against Women in Hong Kong<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center coblocks-animate\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 23%\" data-coblocks-animation=\"fadeIn\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As reported on the website of the Hong Kong Federation of Women\u2019s Centres {\u201cHKFWC\u201d), according to the Social Welfare Department, there were 2,715 cases of violence against spouses and couples in 2021, a significant increase from 2,601 cases in 2020. More than 70% of the victims who called the hotline had faced physical violence, 47% were involved in mental abuse, and 20% were treated with both types of violence.&nbsp; It is also worth noting that 74% of the victims indicated that they had experienced domestic violence more than once, reflecting that domestic violence is still serious.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The taboo towards sexual violence is dissuading victims from seeking help, or worse, forcing them to experience second trauma. Building a just system and a friendly environment are crucial for victims to ask for help and to thrive from trauma. It is encouraging to note that various organizations in the community are working to further the legal and policy reform and to provide channels for survivors to break their silence and make their voice heard in the society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center coblocks-animate\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 32%\" data-coblocks-animation=\"fadeIn\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-border-color has-pale-pink-border-color has-global-padding is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-818b810d wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"border-width:4px;padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30);padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--30)\">\n<p
